RESIDENT ASSISTANT TRAINING NEWSLETTER

Media Used: Adobe InDesign | Adobe Illustrator

This is an electronic newsletter that is created annually for new and returning Resident Assistants (R.A.s) of the University of Maryland. Each year has a different theme, the theme for 2018 being ‘navigation’. I started by designing the logo for the newsletter and then went on to design the layout for the newsletter itself. The logo is based on a compass because it is a tool frequently used in navigation. The newsletter has a green and yellows aesthetic to create an outdoorsy feeling. Since this is an electronic newsletter, I make sure to include interactive elements such as a Table of Contents that takes the user to specific articles in the newsletter and website URLs that can take the user to the desired page.

The Problem Space

The annual training session for new and returning resident assistants for the University of Maryland’s dorms is happening again. The theme for this session is navigation and information about the training session needs to be available to the attendees in an easy to digest way. The information that needs to be shared includes a bio for the new resident assistants, the schedule for the training session and information about what the attendees need before attending the training, such as parking information.

The Target Audience

The target audience for this project is new and returning resident assistants.

The Solution

The solution was a digital newsletter that was based around the navigation theme. The newsletter’s colour scheme was based around green, yellow and other colours that would be found in nature. The newsletter was made so that users could get to what they needed quickly. To facilitate that, the newsletter has an interactive table of contents and clickable links. Users can jump to the sections they need in the newsletter from the table of contents without having to scroll all the way through and they can click on links to websites or emails from inside the document.
